Week of January 26th:
A weekly list of goodies that I’ve forced myself not to buy. (You know, because I’m broke.)
So lovely! Even Dave thinks so. And Dave usually only tolerates my penchant for pink. That makes this little handmade beauty extra special. Still, must resist temptation!
Available here.

How awesome is this fern-leaf motif? And the added bonus is that it’s handmade from recycled materials!
Available here.

Welcome to the Year of the Ox, everybody!
(Yes, I know those are dragons in the picture above.)
Now, being born in the Year of the Monkey, what does the wise interweb say my fortune will be for 2009? You can actually find long, detailed horoscopes for every animal year here, but I’ve found a couple others that give the general gist of it.
MONKEY - 1992, 1980, 1968, 1956, 1944, 1932
“The lion may be called the King of The Jungle, but in 2009 Monkeys are set to knock Leo from his throne with a blockbuster of a year. Relationships and friendships are set to blossom and your efforts at work will be well rewarded. In fact, with so many opportunities you may feel a little overwhelmed; don’t be, swing into each one while you can. If primates can steer clear of monkey business then this could be one their best years in memory.” (Via here.)
“Luck is with you this year, which could mean good news in your work and your love life. You could become more powerful, especially if you’re involved in politics, the military or the law. Whatever you do in business, act courageously. The signs are good for you financially, especially in the stock market and foreign exchange. If you are single, consider marriage. If you are married, pregnancy may be imminent. Your overall health appears favourable, but watch your kidneys and bladder, and try to keep your weight down.” (Via here.)
Looks like good times ahead, people! Woot! Excellent news, especially since last year was so crap-tastic. Here’s hoping your horoscope has good news too.
Kung Hei Fat Choy, everybody!!
Okay, so you know how I’m always saying that I’m broke? Well, here’s why!
Yup, that’s right. Last weekend I bought a Macbook! Surprise! (‘Cause I know some of you are.)
Up till now I’ve been slogging along using my old 2005 Dell Craptop. (No offense, Dell.) But ‘Crappy’ was dying fast. On the dimmest screen setting the battery would only last half an hour, and just being on meant that Crappy was blowing and ticking as loudly as any ’90s desktop tower. Things would crash. Things wouldn’t open. Things would freeze. My brain was exploding daily.
But what, do you ask, was the final straw that made Dave and I get up last Sunday morning and say, “today’s the day”? Crappy started asking me to connect to the internet. Incessantly. Using a dial-up connection. When I was already connected wirelessly to my high-speed cable modem. Yeah. The end, right?
So here the two of us are. Dave decided to document the unveiling because I was that excited. If you look closely you can see a) the computer and I having a moment and; b) the ‘crazy eyes’ of joy and excitement in more than one picture. This little guy is awesome. So silent and battery life like you wouldn’t believe! Sigh, this is the start of a beautiful friendship, I can just feel it.
In my travels around the web I tend to find cool stuff. So I think to myself, why not share?
Other people like finding links to free, cool stuff too, right?
This week: Cool Crochet Stuff!
Anyhoo, that’s all I’ve got for you this week. Maybe by next week I’ll have found some more! Probably. The internet is awesome like that.
Week of January 19th:
A weekly list of goodies that I’ve forced myself not to buy. (You know, because I’m broke.)
Ever since I read Craft Boom’s review of the Artisan 800 I’ve been wanting to get my hands on the Artisan 700. It’s basically the 800′s kid brother. You know, without the fax functions that I don’t need.
Since I am attempting to save money at the moment I’m trying to put off its purchase for as long as possible, but my current printer is so lame that I’m bound to buckle under the pressure soon enough.
Available here.
See, this is the kind of gorgeous wrap dress that flatters every figure and can be worn a million ways. I am loving charcoal grey right now too. So cozy. And don’t even get me started on that shawl collar. Self-control. Self-control. Self-control.
Available here. Found via here.
Wow. So lovely and intricate. I can’t imagine how long it takes to weave the band of a ring like this. Quite the statement piece! Available here. Found via here.
The more I look at things, the more I understand my own style better. Lately, instead of just an “Oh, I like that” reaction, I’ve been thinking about why I like the things I do. What I’ve learned is that my style is simple+. The design can’t be too ornate or look like it’s trying too hard, but it can’t just be straightforward, plain-jane minimalism either. It’s gotta have something. Some flare.
And, wowza! See right here? This is a perfect example of the style I love. It’s simple, with clean lines but also has flourish enough to make it stand out from the crowd.
Available here. Found via here.

This was a picture of us just around the three-week mark.
Today we hit the three-year mark.
I love you big. Happy Anniversary.

Oh, man. The original layout I had chose for this blog was making my brain explode with how bad it was. Seriously, those sidebars were more trouble than they were worth and every time I looked at that lame layout all I wanted to do was tear it apart!
Soooooo….da, da-da, da! What do you think?
New layout! It’s done-ish. I may still change the header image, but for now I’m loving it. It’s based on this template if you’re interested.
Though, I totally wasn’t planning an overhaul today. I was planning on grocery shopping. I was planning on taking my books back to the library, and doing the giant pile of dishes, and maybe even cooking a fancy dinner. Oh, well. It’s only 4. There’s still time. Heh.
Oh, and I get my new glasses tomorrow! Yippee!!
My mom and I went shopping for new glasses last Friday. We both needed new ones pretty badly. The arms of my current pair are kind of degrading. They’ve got this weird peel-y look to them that skeeves me out a bit.
So, these are the pairs that I chose. The optician said it would take about 2 weeks for them to be ready. The store was having a 2-for-1 deal and I totally took advantage in order to buy my first-ever pair of prescription sunglasses! Can you tell I’m super-excited about these? It’s always so hard for me in the summer time, being blinded by the light but only able to wear sunglasses when I’ve got contacts on, lest I end up walking around in a blind daze.
And if you’re wondering why I only gave you a side view, it’s because I’m waiting. I mean, it’s one thing to try them on in the store and another when you get your very own pair and put them on. I can’t wait to see if they are as super-cute and comfortable as the samples I tried on. Yay!
Week of January 12th:
A weekly list of goodies that I’ve forced myself not to buy.
(You know, because I’m broke.)

So lovely. So perfect. So never gonna fit on my desk and way out of my price range, but still.

You know, for years I’ve shunned yellow gold, but I feel like this little lovely is definitely helping to make room for it again in my heart.
18k Yellow Gold Vermeil.

Okay, this I may have to buy. It’s like a little patch of grass to hold my pens and warm my cold winter days! Maybe I’ll get two: one for my pens, and one for my makeup.

And for you children of the ’80s, there can be nothing awesomer than coasters of the original Final Fantasy characters.
